In those four seasons, the switch hitter has averaged 25 home runs and 95 RBIs, hitting .287, .277, .268 and .281. His 30 home runs in 2003 tied the single-season record for Yankees catcher (set by Yogi Berra in 1952 and 1956). Jorge was selected for the All-Star team four years running (2000-2003) and was the starting catcher in 2002 and 2003. Also last year, he ranked third in the American League Most Valuable Player voting (behind Texas' Alex Rodriguez and Toronto's Carlos Delgado). Jorge has been awarded the 2001 Milton Richman “You Gotta’ Have Heart” Award by the New York Chapter of the BBWAA, and he received the 2000 Thurman Munson Award for his accomplishments on the field and in philanthropic work in New York. In the fall of 2000, Jorge and his wife Laura established the Jorge Posada Foundation, a member of the Giving Back Fund family of charities, to foster athletic programs for children in New York City and Puerto Rico. His foundation also supports organizations that work with children who suffer from craniosynostosis, a medical condition for which Jorge and Laura’s son Jorge Jr. has been successfully treated.
